Coming of (digital) age: transforming data systems for non-profit efficiency
Stefano Ongarello will talk about his experience leading the digital transformation of FIND, a global non-profit dedicated to diagnostic testing. This includes the definition and implementation of a data governance framework, and setting up systems to efficiently share information and data within and across teams.
The tools and processes put in place were instrumental to extract value from the data the organization collects and generates, for both internal and external purposes.
For example, FIND’s COVID-19 test tracker and test directories became trusted resources for policy and decision makers worldwide during the pandemic. The data literacy of the organization was cultivated through a variety of initiatives, including the introduction of self-service BI tools.

About the speaker Stefano has over twenty years of experience in the domain of data and analytics in the healthcare domain, spanning from private sector to academia and not-for-profit organizations. Over the past eight years Stefano has been working at FIND, a global not-for-profit organization based in Geneva, Switzerland, whose mission is to accelerate equitable access to medical diagnosis around the world. He led the data science unit, developing the data strategy of the organization, with the goal of promoting and improving decision-making across all levels via the use of data, as well as positioning FIND as the key reference for diagnostic data in the global health community. In collaboration with key units including IT and Communications, he led the organizational digital transformation internally, improving efficiency in ways of operating and sharing information. He previously worked in the private sector in healthcare and pharmaceuticals, using data to support the development of drugs for multiple therapeutic areas. Stefano received an MD in Computer Science Engineering, and a PhD in Bioengineering, both from the University of Padova, Italy.
