Environmental commitment

Each of the local entities that make up Orange Business are key players in working towards the overarching goals of the Lead the Future strategy to reduce carbon footprint by 45% by 2030.

Orange Business recognizes that sustainable operations are crucial to supporting our strategy of being a market leader in the digital services space. In order to support this commitment we were early adopters of ISO 14001 and 50001 for our data centers in Norway and Sweden, and our 14001 certifications also extends to our offices in these countries as well as in the Netherlands. These certifications are proof of our commitment as well as tools for systematic development in our work to reduce environmental impact.

Green Act Program

Orange Business’s Green Act Program

Launched in 2019, Orange Business’s Green Act program integrates environmental issues into our processes and those of our stakeholders through circular economy practices, optimization of energy consumption and methods for measuring and modelling our CO2 emissions.

The best renewable energy is the one we produce ourselves. As a step towards carbon neutrality we have built solar panels on the roof of one of our data centers.

More details on our Green Act Program can be found in our presentation on the left.

Helping the environment

Our focus: measuring and minimizing the ecological impact of our operations, while supporting our clients in their sustainable digital transformation.

Our goal: achieve net zero carbon by 2040.

We work to promote a healthy social culture where new approaches, methods, and ideas are encouraged. This means regularly modernizing our operational methodology, including improving waste sorting, equipment reuse, energy efficiency, and pollution prevention in our data centers.

Through our environmental approach to everything from choosing IT equipment, procurement processes, energy use, equipment re-use, waste management and circular economy, we contribute to a greener IT industry.

Energy efficiency

Energy efficiency for data centers is measured in Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and is a standard way of measuring power usage in the industry. PUE can help us determine if we need to do energy efficiency improvements.

PUE = total energy consumption of the data center / energy consumption related to IT equipment.

The optimal PUE value is 1.0, while average PUE Worldwide is 1,58, and for Europe the average is reported to be 1,6 (2023). (Source: Uptime Institute Global Data Centre Survey 2024)

In 2023, we achieved an average PUE of 1.27 for our Data centres in Norway and Sweden.

ISO certifications and additional information

Orange Business is ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 certified. Annual internal and external revisions document operational data, achievements of environmental targets and improvement processes.

Through environmental management of all IT equipment for our data centers, purchasing, energy use, reuse and waste management, we want to improve the IT-industry’s impact on the environment.
