Our environmental strategy

Orange Business Digital Norway AS' environmental strategy is designed to support Orange Group’s goal to become net zero carbon by 2040.

This involves a strategy and concrete actions that support sustainable operations and reduced climate impact, particularly focusing on energy management in our data centers.

Energy measures and sources

Renewable energy: We purchase all electricity on the Norwegian market, where at least 95% of the power comes from hydropower or other renewable sources. This ensures that our data centers operate on the cleanest energy produced and contributes to keeping CO2 emissions low.
Solar panel installation: We have an ongoing project to install solar panels on the roof of one of our data centers by the end of 2024. These solar panels are expected to produce between 400 000-450 000 kWh yearly for our own consumption. By utilizing solar energy, we reduce dependence on external energy sources and further minimize our carbon footprint.

10R Principles

We follow the extended 10R principles for sustainable resource use:
Refuse: Avoid products that generate waste. We work with our suppliers to avoid unnecessary packaging and components, such as power cables that previously came with all servers.
Rethink: Consider whether the use of a product can be reduced or done in a more sustainable way. We always strive to utilize our components better, for example by using return heat from cooling systems for heating.
Reduce: Reduce the quantity of materials and energy used. We actively optimize the use of virtualization platforms and equipment consumption figures to reduce the quantity of materials and energy used.
Reuse: Reuse products as much as possible before discarding them. We have systematized functional reuse of all hardware, both for ourselves and to support volunteer associations.
Repair: Repair defective products to extend their lifespan. We repair when possible, using components from our spare parts inventory.
Refurbish: Upgrade products to extend their usage period. Customer solutions are upgraded, and warranties extended where feasible.

Re-manufacture: Turn products into new ones using existing components. Equipment that is replaced as part of customer agreements is used in our own solutions where feasible.

Repurpose: Convert products for new purposes. Servers and other components are dismantled so that important components can be reused as spare parts.

Recycle: Recycle materials to make new products. Source separation and agreements with recycling companies ensure proper recycling.

Recover: Recover energy from waste that cannot be recycled. Source separation and agreements with recycling companies ensure energy recovery.

Energy efficiency

Energy efficiency and optimization are key components of our continual improvement efforts. We are ISO 50001 certified, confirming our dedication to energy-efficient operations and continuous improvement of energy performance.

We use modern technologies and solutions to optimize energy use in our data centers. This includes the use of energy-efficient cooling systems, smart energy consumption management, and the implementation of best practices for energy management.

Continual improvement and monitoring

We have implemented systematic improvement efforts to identify and implement energy efficiency measures. This includes regular monitoring and evaluation of energy consumption and adjusting our strategies based on analysis of the collected data.
